Capt. Mitch Scherfer
Captain Mitch was fishing before he was born! His mom fished all throughout her pregnancy out in Biscayne Bay, Miami. Sealing his fate as a lifelong waterman.
His career has spanned 40 plus year's and most his life he has made his living on the water. Beginning in1978 he worked on charter boats fishing out of Fort Lauderdale's Bahia Mar "A" dock. In short order the traveling began. First to the Bahamas and then on to the Gulf of Mexico fishing offshore for big Blue Marlin. The Yucatan of Mexico was next for an education on White Marlin, Sailfishing and the Mighty Broadbill Swordfish. An education that continues today! In 1983 began fishing " Blue Marlin University" St. Thomas U.S.V.I. and return anytime I can.
Moved to Kona, Hawaii soon after and began working with Captain Jeff Fay on the 36 foot Rybovitch " Humdinger". During his time in Hawaii he had the great fortune and honor to meet and fish with some of the islands " living legends".
Captains Bobby Brown, Freddy & Mcgrew Rice, Gene Vanderhoek, Black Bart Miller, Butch Chee & many more.
Visiting and working the Pacific coast of Panama with Houston's Jerry & Deborah Dunaway's famous " The Hooker" at Tropic Star Lodge was life changing. Captain Skip Smith at the helm chasing Black Marlin & Swordfish on ultra lite tackle was challenging to say the least. For our efforts we were able to set 5 line class Billfish world records. So it went for the next few decades, chasing Billfish wherever they were found.
The last decade or so he continues his love of fishing in the Key's working with lifelong friend Super guide Captain Jack Callion.
Los Suenos, Costa Rica saw Jack & Mitch with a charter boat the fabulous " Blue Daze" for a number of years. Catching countless Billfish & inshore species. And beat continues to this day!
